13 things I learnt while travelling across India

  1. Indians are the worst tourists in the world.
  2. When in doubt, take the train. Apart from death and taxes, the Indian Railways is one thing that runs for certain despite all the the horror stories that you've heard.
  3. You will get Delhi Belly despite the hand sanitizers and bottled water. We Indians get it too.
  4. Do not order South Indian food in Punjab, or North Indian food in Kerala.
  5. The North East is prettier than you think and the people are friendlier than those you'll find in the rest of India. And no, they are not Chinese or Nepalese!
  6. There is much more to India than Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - Manali - Varanasi - Goa.
  7. Pushkar is over rated. Hampi is under rated.
  8. Orissa is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
  9. There is a temple on every second hill in India.
  10. India does not make good beer.
  11. Some of the most interesting Indians are found inside a dingy bar near the Railway station.
  12. There is no photograph that defines India.
  13. The real India does live in the village. Still.
