We the virus

From The Matrix (1999)

"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals.

Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus.

Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet."

Guess what, the more I think on these lines, the more true it seems.... isn't it?

true .. absolutely true .. I watched the movie .. but do not remember this dialogue ..

Anyways .. when are we going to wake up to the horrific sins we are committing on Mother Earth?

And if one thought only modern, industrial world has been contributing to this virus-like behaviour - one needs to read the book "World Without Us" - by Alan Weisman - which reveals how the earliest of humans were responsible for extinction of megafauna (stay tuned to my blog for a review of this book :)

That was one of my favorite bits in that movie. Time for Mr. Smith to become Baba Smith and give pravachans ;-)

Very true shanx... I remember that dialogue was hard hitting when I watched the movie.

Now when I see century-old trees ripped apart in the name of road-widening in my city, amid all the heat and dust everywhere this comes to mind...
