The river, the power, the mother

In Indian mythology, the river Ganga holds as exalted status. She's the consort of the Holy Trinity of Bramha, Vishnu and Shiva. She is personified as the ever flowing Power, and the ever forgiving all accepting Mother. It is no wonder, to see countless Indians lining up each morning along its banks, praying - for she is the distilled lifeblood of Indian tradition.

The oldest canvas in the world

--

Deep in the heart of Madhya Pradesh, lie the cave shelters of Bhinmetka. These shelters exhibit the earliest traces of human life in India. It is suggested that at least some of these shelters were inhabited by man for in excess of 100,000 years. Some of the  rock paintings found among the Bhimbetka rock shelters are approximately 30,000 years old.

- The Spectacle Arrives

- Ever since I was a child, I used to be glued to the TV on Sundays - watching my heroes roar around Silverstone, Monza or Monaco in their sleek beasts. Last weekend, I heard the ear splitting roars for myself, saw my heroes in person. And not just that, the track was in India, the advertisers on the cars were Indian and one driver even had the Ashok Chakra on his helmet.

F1 had truly arrived.

New Wings -

For years Indians flew out of barns, bunkers and tin sheds masquerading as airports. Then with the opening of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, we went from being the worst to the best in one single leap.  Today this airport ranks amongst the best in the world and has been joined by equally modern and efficient airports at Delhi, Bombay and Bangalore. Having been associated closely with the development of the new airports at Delhi and Hyderabad, I can proudly claim a small part in contributing to the nation.

A secret the world knows -

Years ago, a small time government employee began to clear a little patch of jungle to make himself a small garden with sculpted  figures built material recycled from whatever he happened to come across. This man worked in secret at night after a full day's work at office. Gradually his creation grew and grew to cover several acres, comprising hundreds of sculptures set in a series of interlinking courtyards.

One day his secret discovered by the authorities. The creation was completely illegal - a development in a forbidden area which by law have been demolished. But the rule book was thrown out of window for once, and he was given a salary and fifty men so that he could concentrate full-time on this work.

This man was Nek Chand and his creation is the now world famous, Rock Garden of Chandigarh.

Monsoon On The Ruins

Hampi and its ruins are long steeped in history. Some say it is the legendary Kishkindha, the capital of the monkey kings Bali & Sugriva. It is also revered as the birth place of Hanuman. Centuries afterward, Harihara and Bukka founded their capital at the same site which was brought to its zenith by Krishna Deva Raya.

Today it's ruins are visited by thousands of gawking tourists and pilgrims all through the year. However, when the monsoons break above the skies - the ruins acquire another, magical aspect altogether.
