Here I am, on the road again

(In case you haven't noticed... look up, you'll see a change)

As I walked into office this morning, word had already spread that this was to be my last day at work. I got stopped in corridors, people dropped by at my desk, I wasn't even left alone in the loo! But one thing that struck me as I spoke to them, was the fact that almost everyone opened the conversation with the same question - "So where are you joining next?"

And when I told them that I wasn't joining anywhere, just quitting this job - the reaction was the same again... 'Oh come on, don't kid me - I am sure you've got a cushy job lined up, otherwise who would quit just like that?' And it increasingly became hard to convince anyone that I indeed was quitting without having another offer or hand or something concrete lined up. By noon, I had given up.

Because I realized that they were all stuck in the same pathetic rut, the drudgery of a commute, a desk and a computer. For them, change would mean change of employer or designation - Nothing more.

Not me though!

Today, I emptied my desk of its computer, got rid of the files and threw away my business cards. My access cards got shredded to bits, and my email id and login passwords were deleted. Today, I ceased to be #00002381 - today I became myself again.

Tomorrow morning, I hit the road again....

Good for you. but a 'pathetic rut' for you may be what they want. who's anybody to diss choices that others make? did they label you pathetic for making the choice which you made?

anyhow, tolerance of others' choices is only on the downslide so you wouldnt get it anyway, just like others dont.

have fun.

Nice "MSPAINT" job :?

Well, glad that you quit and quit happily!! :)

I would say, the decision is a bit hatke...but like you said aptly; it is ingrained in us, to be a rat, and join the rat-race.

- Serendipity.
