The Guardian

In the time it takes for you to get from Delhi to Bombay in a train, more than 5,000 railwaymen have ensured that the tracks are clear and fit to operate, gates are closed and signals working properly. You barely register their faces as they pass by in a blur. Probably you'd recognise them just by the green flags they wave, signifying a safe passage for you and your loved ones.

Jaswant Singh is one such green flag without a face... but he is your guardian, like many of his brethren. Spare them a thought.
